Hello , everyone . This is the first time I've posted the first message on here . I'm a owner of a 2005 Accord Euro , the Euro is completely stock standard save for a genuine Honda rear spoiler . The car is awesome to drive and is very relaxing on commuting . Which brings me to the question I want to ask . The K24A 2.4 i-VTEC engine is decent but I want a bit more power . I was thinking of installing a supercharger onto the K24A to give it a boost . Would the supercharger affect the engine's good fuel efficiency ? If there is a increase in power - should I pay some attention to the suspension , brakes and tyres and wheels ? Plus my transmission is a Automatic , should I get the transmission overhauled as well when the supercharger is fitted ? :)

Cheers ... thanks for listening.

well its been done before, theres the american comptech supercharger kit if u want to look that up. also they have info about it on the american forums ( http://www.tsxclub.com/forums/index.php? and http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/ ) in my opinion if there is a power increase u need to pay some attention to get the thing to stop also.

Welcome to Hondatech, the k24 engine responses very well to any kind of forced induction, supercharging or turbo charging. I won’t touch on turbo charging in this article but instead concentrate on the benefits of supercharging. I’ve had many conversations with pioneer of supercharging the k24 engine with Doug from Hondata in the United States when he visited me a few months ago. Comptech make a very good supercharge kit for the k24, along with both injector upgrades and ECU upgrades from Hondata. That being said the key to supercharging a car is to remove any restrictions within both the intake and the exhaust. If you are serious about supercharging you most certainly will need a very large exhaust system and a nice set of headers to maximize the gains. Supercharging produces very linear power, with instant throttle response, I’ve driven and tuned k20 supercharged cars and it’s quite an experience. The standard Euro makes around 100kw at the wheels, once you tune the car with a nice set of headers and exhaust we are seeing power output figures of around 150kw. Add a supercharger on top of that and id expect to see figures of around 200kw+ at the wheels on relative low levels of boost (5 – 6psi) which is more than just a bit of power improvement. Can the engine handle and sustain these kinds of power figures, well if the history of the k20 engine has anything to go by, it most certainly can. You touch on the question of breaks and suspension, this most certainly is something you should upgrade also, along with a clutch and flywheel, power is one thing, but getting it to the ground and stopping is another game altogether. In this area of breaks and suspension there are many players, personally id only go with large repeatable companies for these upgrades, ie bilstein, tein, brimbo, etc. With regards to your transmission being an auto, don’t let these phase you, there shouldn’t be a problem with that, Honda are great at over engineering almost everything.

Anyway hope that answers your questions, if ya have any more feel free to ask.

Hey thanks for the information . I would tell you what I have in mind for the upgrades but I try to reply but the forums just knocks me out of from replying on my own topic - why is that ?

Is that I have to include a title or other wise it will restrict me ?

Anyway it shouldn't be a problem . I kinda figured out why that was the case ... me being not being able to reply .

My Accord Euro is bog standard and it has the 205 Dunlop Tyres with the standard 16 inch rims and well everything is standard .

I have been looking into the upgrades for these items , if the supercharger is fitted . I was thinkin of fitting Rays Engineering Volks CE28Ns which are 18 inch and maybe some good quality tyres that can withstand the power produced at maybe the sizes 225 or 235 - I'm looking at Bridgestone , Yokohama or Toyo or Michelin ... what do you recommend for the best tyres (have to be durable as the car will still stay as a street car) Is it good enough to contain the newfound grunt ?

As for the brakes I need some opinions on the Spoon monoblock 4 Piston Calipers - the pros and cons and what sizes of the vented discs they come in - say 330mm or bigger ? Or Endless or Project Mu would do the trick . Brembo or Ap Racing are expensive .

The suspension , what sort of suspension do you think is best to contain such power output ? my options are either Tein or HKS . again some opinions wold be nice !

As for the supercharger , where can I get the one Comptech uses for their demo cars ? Is it available here in Oz ? Or I have been looking at another supercharger - the Eaton M62 - again opinions on it , and is the specs similar to the one Comptech uses ? This one (the Eaton M62) is suitable for the 2.0 to 2.4 4 cylinder engines .

What's a good exhaust system and some headers that will remove the restriction ?

I live in Melbourne , Victoria . So I have several tuning places that are near me like N1 , Access Auto , Rev Zone and some others etc ...

I think that is all the questions Cheers lol

My personal favorite brand of rubber is Bridgestone, iv had some great azzinas semi comps and the RE55 which I just love are fantastic, but these are really for race application, it really depends how serious you are. I’ve also used some toyo proxies before and found them great value for money, like anything the best is always expensive. Things are expensive for a reason… in most cases at least. Having a larger wheel tho going from 16 to 18 will decrease performance, and throttle response, as well as weighing down your car, as the rotating mass will increase in both weight and size. If you want pure performance stay with a 16, or maybe consider a 17 just for looks. A fwd car with 200kw on a 16” rim would be a very nice combination, that being said a 16” rim with a very nice set of semi comp road race tires wrapped around them would be a fantastic option, but yes of crouse going to a 18” rim is always a option but personally u wouldn’t gain any performance, just looks by doing that.

For brakes, my personal choice is Brembo, but these would requite custom modification to make these fit, where as im sure spoon, and a few others have kits already designed for the Accord, my recommendation is either go full custom and get some crazy brembo’s with custom mounting brackets and hubs / discs, or get the best monoblock 4 piston calipers you can buy in a kit suited for your car. Although it also depends how big your budget is, on the cheap side of things a nice set of cross drilled rotors, along with a performance pad will increase the breaking ability well above standard without the extra cost on your wallet.

Suspension is really a personal choice, if you go for name brands such as Tein, or HKS you kinda of get what ever they have specified for your car, ie you can’t really fine tune it for your personal needs, brands such as bilstein you can have setup any way you like, although this full adjustment comes at a cost like everything. If your after just coilovers with a better ride than stock then just get a off the shelf kit.

As the supercharger goes, from where it stands comptech is your only option, as far as I’m aware there the only ones that make a kit for the euro. The Easton m62 your talking about is a generic supercharger and you would have to customize everything to make this work. if your after a proven Bolt on solution then comptech is from what I know the only option. Comptech is available in Australia via Rev Zone, although at present there has been ZERO interest in supercharging a euro, not so say we would’t support such a project. With regards to a exhaust and header system ;) well here I would have to recommend the system iv spent the past year designing, its by far the largest system on the market, with the least amount of restriction, designed specifically for maximum power while retaining a stock sound. More information can be found here.

http://www.hondatech.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=863

Hope that helps, I suggest if your looking at starting a project allocate how much money you want to spend in each department, ie engine, brakes, suspension, wheels / looks and that will help workshops decide which route will suit you.

Yeah again thanks for the information ... well yeah I decided to supercharge the Euro because right now the Accord Euro is almost everywhere on the road - so I wanted to be a bit different . Stand out among the other Accord Euros on the street - I don't like attention though - but I like to give the car a "SLEEPER" look.

As for the Euro , my choices for the moment is either find some 16 inch or 17 inch versions of the Rays Engineering Volks CE28Ns and plus with the tyre sizes I mentioned . As for the brakes I'm gonna consider just slotting the standard brakes or if available get the Spoon 4 Pot Calipers and bigger vented discs like I said in the last post . I'll give Rev zone a email regarding the availability of the Comptech Supercharger ...

I never really had thought about how much I'm going to spend on money for the car . As for the moment , I'm a poor student with no job as of yet ! NO luck in finding a job either lol . I got inspired to modify the Euro to have 17 inch Rays Engineering Volks CE28Ns from the Spirits Accord Euro R (CL7) - if you watch the Best Motoring DVD - VTEC Club it features that car in a darkish blue with the gold rims and it retains the factory look! Where the supercharger came in , well that was thanks to seeing some of Comptech's Demo cars in Hot Version International - American Touge .

Hopefully I get a good paying job soon and I can start the project for my Accord Euro .

Thanks

Hi again . Just like to know how much is the Comptech Supercharger and just like to know why is there ZERO interest in supercharging the Accord Euro . If I went ahead to supercharge my car then I'll probably be the first person in Melbourne to have a Accord Euro that is supercharged ?

Also I have been told by some friends about if the K24A is supercharged it will muck up the excellent fuel consumption and things ? Is that true ?

I guess my final options for tuning the car would be a Comptech Supercharger , 17 inch Rays Engineering Volks CE28Ns (forged) - {clear the spoon brakes }and 225 or 235 bridgestone potenza Re70s , spoon 4 pot calipers and 330mm vented discs , and other things . Is the Accord Euro 's standard chassis and double wishbone suspension good enough to handle the new found grunt (that is before upgrading the suspension coilovers) and how about a full bodykit (which besides looks provide downforce and stability?:hmm::)

I can only dream now . It would be a reality if I had a job which pays pretty well .

that's pretty much it . If I had the money , I guess I'll try and keep the project within the $10000 - $15000 barrier .

That's all . thanks ;)

note : my Accord is not Eurohttp://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:R0cXDZo12IMT_M:http://images.intellichoice.com/images/AutoShows/Big/112_05fas_honda_accord_s.jpg ... it is the same as the Japanies version

guys, i am very interested in supercharging my Euro as well. i too don't understand why there isn't more interest in this subject. BLKCRX, you mentioned that Rev Zone are the only distibutors. you wouldn't have a location/number at all would you? i'd like to get a ballpark figure on the cost
